Sunday Happenings:
The 2024 NBA Western Conference Finals became the 405th best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series to feature a 3-games-nil lead, upon the defeat of Minnesota by Dallas. For the second consecutive year, both best-of-7 NBA Semifinals series stand at 3-games-nil after the first three games: In 2023, the Miami Heat led the Boston Celtics 3-games-nil but needed all seven games to oust the Celtics in the East, while the eventual 2023 NBA champion Denver Nuggets swept the Los Angeles Lakers in four games in the West. Game 3 of the 2024 NHL Eastern Conference Finals becomes the second best-of-7 NHL playoff game to be decided by a goal 5:35 into the first overtime period: The Chicago Blackhawks scored 5:35 into the first overtime period to defeat the Canucks in Vancouver in their 1995 NHL Quarterfinals Game 4, thus sweeping the Vancouver Canucks from the 1995 NHL playoffs. The Game 3 loss by the Florida Panthers ends their best-of-7 NHL playoff Game 3 winning streak (irrespective of Games 1-2 outcomes) at five Game 3s.

On Sunday 28 April, the Vancouver Canucks trailed their host Nashville Predators by two goals as late as 17:10 into the third period, but prevailed. In the history of best-of-7 NHL playoff games from 1939 through 2023, inclusive, road teams down two goals as late as 17:10 into the third period had a game record of only 2-548 (.00364) - the Vancouver Canucks thus achieve a grade-A (.000 - .099) in-game comeback in that context. The only two previous winners in that situation were the Philadelphia Flyers (over the Maple Leafs in Toronto, in Game 4 of their 1977 NHL Quarterfinals series) and the Anaheim Ducks (over the Stars in Dallas, in Game 6 of their 2014 NHL Preliminary-round series). The Vancouver Canucks trailed the host Nashville Predators by one goal as late as 19:51 into the third period but prevailed.
