In January 2024, mutual funds showed an interest in oil & gas, healthcare, PSU Banks, telecom, technology, automobiles, and real estate, leading to a month-on-month (MoM) rise in their weights, according to a report by Motilal Oswal Financial Services

Private Banks, consumer, metals, retail, chemicals, textiles, and media saw a month-on-month reduction in their weights in January, according to a report by Motilal Oswal Financial Services

Favourite sectors

Private Banks had the highest weightage of around 17.1%. It was the top sector holding for mutual funds in January 2024. The other sectors that followed were technology (9.5%), auto (8.4%), capital goods (7.5%), and healthcare (7.3%).

Oil and gas, infrastructure, telecom, real estate, and PSU Banks were the sectors to witness the maximum increase in value MoM

The top sectors where mutual fund ownership vis-à-vis the BSE 200 is at least 1% higher were healthcare (15 funds over-owned), capital goods (14 funds over-owned), automobiles (10 funds over-owned), NBFCs (10 funds over-owned), and chemicals (10 funds over-owned).

The top sectors where mutual fund ownership vis-à-vis the BSE 200 is at least 1% lower were: Oil & Gas (19 funds under-owned), Consumer (19 funds under-owned), Private Banks (14 funds under-owned), Technology (14 funds under-owned), and Utilities (14 funds under-owned).
