The book is about a new teacher entered the school, she is a health teacher. She changed the lunch to disgusting burgers, and she took out the soda machine. And when a kid eats a junk food, she quickly catches it, and throws it. So this 2nd graders went to the garbage to find any junk food. And the 2nd graders saw the health teacher eating junk food. I liked this book because it has a lot of funny scenes. I recommend this book to the 3rd graders because it easy and funny.

This book is fun to read and entertaining. The story about the health teacher, Ms. Leakey, keeps you wanting to figure out what her agenda is really all about. My kids love Dan Gutman books. His books keeps my kids wanting to read more.

The weirdness never stops! Oh no! Kids are getting too unhealthy, so Ella Mentry School has hired a health teacher to help the kids eat right and exercise. Ms. Leakey is a real health nut. She makes a punching bag filled with junk food! She designs a robot that smokes and drinks!

I think this book can be used to teach about proper health techniques. Ms. Leakey is a new health teacher the school hired and she does the weirdest things. The students try to figure out her agenda and why she is so "weird." I think this is a funny, fun read for young students.

This is a very funny book. And at the end the health teacher Ms leaky eats the junk she tells students to stop but she does not stop. But anyway on to the story. So the students at Ella's Mentry are getting unhealthy they need a heath teacher but that teach is a junk teacher. 😆

As a school librarian in NJ, I was thrilled when Dan Gutman was able to visit our school and engage with the kids during an author visit assembly.

His books were and are so perennially popular that I have them all in bins in the "popular series section" of the school library.

He just has a knack for engaging a kid. Kids who won't read or don't like reading will be immediately drawn in - who WOULDN'T want to learn more about the health teacher Ms. Leakey, who starts out the school assembly with a "veggie vs junk food" fight? Teachers dressed up as candy, co*ke, and a donut, battle it out with carrots and fruit, using wooden swords.

Ella Mentry School has a new health teacher, and she's out to make A.J. an example to other students by "helping" him eat healthy.

My six-and-a-half-year-old son and I have been reading through this series together. He laughs a lot and really likes hearing about A.J.'s adventures. So far, this is the one I like least. Ms. Leakey was a little too freaky in her harassment of students, especially of A.J.

An eccentric health teacher descends upon Ella Mentry School to teach healthy eating habits, by force if necessary. This humorous tale uses a lot of exaggerated superlative language like, “the most amazing thing in the history of the world,” which is repeated about a dozen times throughout the course of the book. The adult characters do some weird stuff, such as build a robot which drinks beer in class, but this is offset by one of the characters wondering out loud if these things are really appropriate for children. There are also a lot of references to chemical food products such as sodium acid pyrophosphate, but it is made clear that these are big confusing words that make little sense. Other teachers from the “My Weird School Daze” series appear in this book, helping tie in this book with the rest of the series in a manner which doesn’t feel forced. The chapter where the health teacher opens her own restaurant could have easily been edited out of the narrative, but otherwise this is a lighthearted tale with a good moral about healthy eating while not going “overboard.” The digital cartoon illustrations tie in well with the comical tone and are often exaggerated in a similar nature as the text. The scattered illustrations help break up the text without making it look too young for its audience, and the length of 102 pages adds a sense of achievement to completing this transitional chapter book. Recommended for children ages seven to eight.

I understand that eating healthy is good for you, but Ms. Leakey went over board. Like taking the twinkie out of AJ's mouth, and jumping from under his bed to take away his candy bar. My parents allows me to snack healthy like eating celery sticks with ranch dressing, eating fruit snacks and fruits but not all of my snacks are healthy. I sometimes eat candy bars and cup cakes but not a whole lot. In all schools their should be healthier eating but not like Ms. Leakey was doing. Just like Andrea was saying in the assembly when the vegetables was fighting the junk food with swords and stabbing each other that was to much. If they wanted kids to eat healthy they should have sent a letter home to the students parents and asked them to try and send healthy lunches to school with their kids. And don't forget to drink more water, my mom always have me drink water when I eat my dinner I only drink jucies on the weekends. Ms. Leakey was Freaky why would she tell the students one thing and do something else, it was ment for her to get caught in the dumpster eating all of that junk food and get fired by Mr. Klutz. Just like they say you are what you eat, try to eat healthy.

I thought that ms. leaky IS freaky. She made everyone throw away their candy and other junk food into a dumpster where ms. leaky is eating everything they through away. She is nuts!!! And then she opens a fast food resturant where kids go and eat broccali burgers, potato fries, and other wacky foods. And she is also follwing A.j! She follows him to his house shere she hides under his bed, she follows him to the store so he can't buy candy, and other places!!!!!!!!! A.j thinks sheis totally crazy!!!!! But one day at school A.j and his friends find out that she is junk food junkie and so mr. kluts fires her. Can anybody else stop her?

I love the My Weird School series by Dan Gutman. I just feel that some of the material becomes unnecessary and at times it is inappropriate. For example in this read, the use of beer and cigarettes from the robot it too much. Why not use pop and candy? Why do we use the term stupid, when it's not used properly in today's society. I love the humor in this series, but for young readers that are advanced readers it becomes too much. My child is in the second grade reading on a 4th grade level and words like this bother me as a parent and would keep me from reading it in my classroom.

Dan Gutman understands young reader’s humor and has created a fantastic book formula to draw in even the most reluctant of readers. The My Weird School series is perfect for students to practice their reading skills with its repetitive yet hysterical narrative and story lines. But don’t mention that part to your kiddos, they might run away in fear they could learn something. A must have collection for any grade school library or classroom!

I liked this book. It was about trying to eat healthy, but A.J. loves candy.

My favorite part of the book was when A.J. got to hit the punching bag and then candy starting falling out of it. The teacher was mad because she wanted him to eat healthy. My lease favorite part of the book was when Ms. Leakey opens the restaurant McLeakey's. Kids don't want to eat vegetarian burgers and tofu.
I think kids who eat junk food would like this book. It is funny to read about being unhealthy.

Ms. Leaky is the health teacher (well, they think she is). She says no candy allowed even for desserts in lunchboxes. She isn't the real health teacher. If they brought candy to school she threw it in the dumpster by the school and since she wasn't the real health teacher, she was really just hiding in the dumpster and eating all the candy she threw away.

Genre: young reader
Part of a series called My weird school daze that is fun and quick to read. The story uses current language and refernces and connects with today's youth. The story is written well and keeps the reader entertained.
