Happiest Trade Jobs? (2024)

Hey, I'm considering trade school instead of a 4-year college and wanted to know which trade jobs are known to have the happiest workers. Any suggestions?

Hey there! It's great that you're exploring trade school as an option. Trade jobs can offer excellent career opportunities and job satisfaction. While happiness in a job is subjective and can vary from person to person, there are certain trades that tend to have happier workers due to factors like job security, work-life balance, and general satisfaction with the work itself. Here are a few trade jobs with reported high levels of happiness among workers:

1. Electrician: Electricians enjoy a stable work environment, good pay, and opportunities for advancement. They also have the satisfaction of working independently and solving problems on a daily basis.

2. Plumber: Like electricians, plumbers tend to have stable job availability and good pay. Additionally, plumbers have the opportunity to interact with different people regularly, which can be especially gratifying for some people.

3. HVAC Technician: HVAC technicians work on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. Demand for skilled technicians is typically high, and the work can be varied and interesting. With opportunities for self-employment, many HVAC technicians can build their schedules to suit their desired work-life balance.

4. Dental Hygienist: Not all trade jobs are in the home-repair industry. Dental hygienists work in dental offices, by helping dentists and providing preventative oral care to patients. The position often comes with a flexible schedule, a clean and comfortable work environment, and the satisfaction of helping people maintain their oral health.

5. Wind Turbine Technician: If you're interested in renewable energy, consider training as a wind turbine technician. The industry is rapidly growing, so you might find exciting opportunities for career advancement and good pay. Many technicians find satisfaction in contributing to a more sustainable future.

It's essential to recognize that personal preferences, work environments, and other factors will greatly influence how happy someone is in their trade job. Before choosing a specific trade, take the time to research and learn more about each profession, and weigh the pros and cons of each one based on your own goals, values, and interests. Also, consider shadowing someone in the field or attending a trade school open house to get a first-hand look at the potential careers. But hopefully, this list gives you a good starting point for your research.

Good luck exploring your options!
