Joanne was born on July 5, 1940 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Walter and Irene Stolper. She was born again through the washing of Holy Baptism on August 18, 1940. Joanne attended school in Milwaukee, graduating from Milwaukee Lutheran High School. She married Donald Roell on June 10, 1961 and their marriage was blessed with three children. David Otto Stendel was born on March 8, 1938 to Arthur and Helena (nee Thoemke) Stendel on the family homestead he currently resided in.
