“Rushing into action, you fail. Trying to grasp things, you lose them. Forcing a project to completion, you ruin what was almost ripe.” Laozi,an ancient Chinese philosopher and writer.

One thing is certain in these modern times of ours: rushing. We rush to do everything from getting information to eating.

There is a difference between moving fast and rushing. You can move fast and be thoughtful. When you rush, you sacrifice thoughtfulness.

There is always irritating little voice in your head which tries to convince you that you must hurry because otherwise you will not get enough done.

The TRUTH is there is never enough time, and you cannot get everything done anyway. But thinking all the time about the next task is stressful and doesn’t let you focus on what is important.

How to stop rushing?

What are the things you shouldn't do in life? Junaid S.A.A 6 years ago

  • Do fewer tasks but do them properly. Focus on quality, rather than quantity.
  • Pay attention to when the thing you're chasing exceeds its usefulness.
  • Try to start the morning with the important tasks. Let the end of the day be reserved for less important projects or routine tasks.
  • Learn the art of being (rushing is a lack of willingness to be in the present moment). Spend some time observing your thoughts, listening to the music, taking a walk, etc.

If you change your rushed mindset, you will be surprised to see how much you can get done by being focused on fewer things and save time for your hobby, family, and friends. Take some time to think:

What do you need to de-prioritize?

What can you drop doing?

Remember: Life is great when savored, Work is great when focused!

When you stop rushing, you enjoy life more. You worry less. You care for others more. You make fewer mistakes because you’re more focused. Rushing allows you to live on the surface rather than going deep.

There is a sentence attributed to Napoleon (not sure if this is true) I heard many years ago and it has been of good help for me, which embodies Leyla’s point of view:“Dress me slowly, I'm in a hurry”

This is the first time I hear about "de-prioritizing". I first read it as "re-prioritize". Maybe that is because I was rushing :) Good article! Definitely gives food for thought!
