When you restore a care you have an opportunity to build something just the way you would have ordered it new. Take the 1966 corvette roadster, which is probably one of the best-driving mid-year Corvettes around here in Dallas. There's an L79 under the hood, 4.11 positraction rear end, a 4 speed behind it with side pipes with direct bolt knock-off wheels, and a bunch of desirable options like the factory A/C build in that blows cold. It's not 100% the way the factory built this car; I'd argue that it's better!

The trim tag says it was originally Ermine white with a black vinyl interior, but few would argue that the fairly recent repaint in brilliant Rally Red wasn't a big upgrade. Fit and finish are outstanding, as you'd expect for a car at this level. Lots of time went into the bodywork, erasing all the blemishes and lining everything up just right, and with Corvette fiberglass, it's particularly important to keep the edges sharp and crisp. Once the surface was ready, several coats of brilliant red paint were applied, and it's exactly right--- you want a red Corvette, this is the reddest. It's also one of the shiniest, thanks to a professional wet sand and buff on the surface, which erased any traces of orange peel that gets in the way of the shine, Aside from being much, much nicer that is was in 1966, there are no real deviations from showroom specs, so the chrome trim, the emblems and the raucous side pipes are all in place.

The trim tag also says "STD" for interior, but the standard buckets were restored with black leather and it's a very welcome upgrade. Like the bodywork, the interior was given a full makeover but sticks to the original specification, so you won't see modern buckets or an aftermarket wheel. Instead it's built the way you might have ordered your dream Corvette in 1966 if you had unlimited resources at your disposal. The gauges are clear and crisp, the wood grained steering wheel is beautiful, and yes, that's factory A/C flanking the fully operational clock. There's an aftermarket AM/FM/Cassette stereo, but if you are a purist that's easy to fix and if not, you'll enjoy the ride that much more. It also has power steering, power antenna, 4 wheel disk brakes, and a teak steering wheel. A white top looks even better against the red paint than it would have when the car was white and stows under the rear deck without a lot of effort.

The engine is a date-code correct 327 cubic inch V8 rebuilt to 350 horsepower L79 specifications. All ignition shielding and distributor shielding intact. Weather-stripping, chrome and glass in excellent condition. All interior lights and gauges work as well. The A/C blows cold which is nice in the Texas heat. Headlights work and rotate on demand. There's something special about a high-winding, high-compression small block that this car embodies perfectly, encouraging you to run it through the gears and listen to the insane exhaust note through the side pipes. The engine bay is quite stock-looking, with correct Winters intake, finned valve covers, and a factory cast iron exhaust manifolds. It has a Holley 4 barrel that was rebuilt a few years ago. It starts and runs quite well, with a slight lope to the idle that tells everyone this car means business, and for balance, there are few better road cars than a small-block powered Corvette roadster. The 4-speed rips through the gears and feels so tough you'll look forward to barking the tires on the 1-2 shift, and thanks to a rebuilt suspension with composite leaf springs, handling is impressive. Classic knock-off alloys are fitted with 215/65/15 Goodyear rubber that fits right without looking too modern and fat.

I have most documents from about 25 years ago to the present. Also included is 1966 "Corvette Complete Assembly Manual".
This car is priced to sell. Clear Texas title. Sold as is. No warranty. If interested, please email me your number or questions and I will call you back or email your answer. Thanks.
